| 13. Sept. 2003 | Bereits zum dritten Mal organisierten Jan Sundermann und Freddie Schorsch dieses ungezwungene Treffen für Radiofreunde. Der offizielle Beginn war um 12 Uhr aber bereits gegen 11 Uhr trafen die ersten Besucher ein. | For the third time Jan Sundermann and Freddie Schorsch organized this informal get together for all friends of radio. Official opening was at 12 noon but the first visitors arrived already at 11 am. | Sept 13th 2003 |

Mit Sietse Brouwer und A. Hondema hatte sich die Caroline Support Group Niederlande wieder die Mühe gemacht mit einem Verkaufsstand anzureisen.

| Das Angebot stieß auf reges Interesse, zumal eine erst Ende Oktober erscheinende neue DVD hier bereits begutachtet und bestellt werden konnte. | The offers were keenly examined, especially a new DVD to be released not before the end of October that could be looked at here for the first time. | |||

| Im Laufe der nächsten Stunden trafen dann viele weitere Besucher ein. Leider gab es am gleichen Tag zwei weitere große Radiotreffen, so dass nicht ganz so viele Teilnehmer wie im letzten Jahr zu begrüßen waren. Aber immer noch gut 40 Leute fanden den Weg in die Sternwarte. | During the course of the next hour many more visitors arrived. Sadly two more big radio meetings took place on the same day. Thus not as many participants as last year could be counted. But still well over 40 people found the way to the Erkrath event. |

They explained the various aspects of their alternative and successful radio project. |

| Am frühen Nachmittag traf dann Ulf Posé als einer der Ehrengäste ein. Als "Hannibal" war er einer der wenigen deutschen Seesender-DJ's bei RNI und bereits bei dem misslungenen Start des deutschen RNI dabei. | Early afternoon one of the special guests Ulf Posé arrived. As "Hannibal" he was one of the few German Offshore Radio DJ's on RNI. He was also involved in the failed project of the German RNI. |

| Die Ankunft von Hannibal führte natürlich zu einem regen Gedankenaustausch. Aus seiner Seesenderzeit konnte er sich noch an viele Namen erinnern. Graham Gill, einen weiteren Seesenderveteran traf er hier allerdings zum ersten Mal. | The arrival of Hannibal caused quite a stir as he hadn't openly talked about his offshore radio times for many years. He remebered quite a few names from the past but it was the first time that he meet Graham Gill, another offshore radio stalwart. |

| In einem weiteren Programmpunkt berichtete Sietse Brouwer ausführlich über die holländische Rundfunkszene. Dort hatte es ja in den vergangenen Monaten große und teilweise verwirrende Änderungen gegeben. Natürlich berichtete Sietse auch über die Einstellung des niederländschen Radio Caroline - eine direkte Folge der Frequenzvergabepolitik in Holland. Höhepukt der Veranstaltung war aber sicherlich das Interview mit Ulf Posé bzw. Hannibal. Ausführlich berichtete er über das deutsche Radio Nordsee Projekt das dann letztendlich zum Scheitern verurteilt war. Interessant auch die Schilderung wie er zu RNI auf die MEBO II kam. Als Zeitzeuge der nach vielen Jahren vor einem interessierten Fachpublikum sprach kamen viele bisher unbekannte Details zu Tage. Ganz offensichtlich fühlte sich Ulf geehrt nach so vielen Jahren immer noch dieses Interesse an seinen Erlebnissen vorzufinden. Es war klar erkennbar, dass es ihm Spaß machte wieder in die Vergangenheit und einen wichtigen Teil seiner Karriere einzutauchen. | The next item on the agenda was Sietse Brouwer. He explained in detail the chances in the Dutch radio scene. During the course of the last few months major adjustments and partly confusing details had been made to the way licences were awarded. Of course Sietse also spoke about the problems this caused for the Dutch Radio Caroline and why it finally had to cease broadcasting. The highlight of the event for sure was the interview with Ulf Posé aka Hannibal. The detailed account of his involvment in the German Radio Nordsee project (which finally came to nothing) was highly interesting. Just as interesting also were the accounts of his further steps in life and how he ended up on the MEBO II with RNI. Speaking about his radio career for the first time since many years quite a few unknown stories came to light. Obviously Ulf felt honoured by the intense interest in his adventures after all this time. It showed quite clearly that he enjoyed delving back into history and looking back at an important part of his life. |

| Neben den Vorträgen, Interviews und Filmbeiträgen (in diesem Jahr unter anderem über Radio Gloria und einer Fahrt zu den Radio Forts in der Themsemündung) waren die persönlichen Gespräche wie immer ein wichtiger Teil dieser Veranstaltung. Die lockere und variable Programmplanung bot ausreichend Gelegenheit für solche Gespräche und machte sicherlich auch einen Teil des Reizes des Erkrather Treffen aus. Das wunderbar sonnige Wetter vervollständigte dann eine rundum gelungene Veranstaltung zu der man sich nur etwas mehr Teilnehmer gewünscht hätte. | Besides talks, interviews and films (this year for example about Radio Gloria and a trip to the radio forts in the Thames estuary) the personal conversations and discussions were as usual an important part of the event. The easy going and variable agenda offered ample opportunities for those contacts and surely made out part of the attraction of the Erkrath meeting. The marvelous sunny weather completed a fully successful event which would had deserved just a few more visitors. |

| Gegen 19 Uhr stand die Verlosung als letzter Programmpunkt auf der Agenda. Mit Büchern, T-Shirts, CD's und Stickern befanden sich eine ganze Reihe teilweiser wertvoller Preise in der Tombola. Mindestens 50 Prozent der Teilnehmer konnten sich zumindest über einen kleineren Preis freuen. | At around 7pm a raffle ended a pleasant day. Books, T-shirts, CD's and stickers summed up to quite a few valuable prices. More than half of those present could enjoy the win of at least a consolation prize. |

| Die Kasse (es gab auch Kuchen, Kaffee, Bier, Limo) und die gut ausgestattete Technik des Vortragsraums (rechts) waren ebenfalls wichtige Bestandteile der Veranstaltung | The cash desk (there were also cake, coffee, beer and soft drinks for sale) and the extensive equipment of the lecture hall were important parts of the event as well. |

| Kurz nach 19 Uhr wurde das Treffen offiziell beendet und gegen 20 Uhr hatten dann auch die letzten Besucher den Heimweg angetreten. Eine Gruppe von gut einem Dutzend Teilnehmern begab sich dann noch in die Düsseldorfer Altstadt wo man bis ca. 3 Uhr am nächsten Morgen bei ein oder zwei Bier zusammensaß. Aber so ganz genau konnte sich niemand mehr daran erinnern. Als weiterer Ehrengast sollte eigentlich Paul Alexander Rusling nach Erkrath kommen. Leider verpasste er sein Flugzeug und war darüber so untröstlich das er als Entschuldigung einen ausführlichen Brief schrieb. Brief Paul A. Rusling | Shortly past 7 pm the radio day was officially ended and by 8 pm the last visitors were on their way home. A group of a dozen or so people went to the "Düsseldorf Altstadt". They sat together until about 3 am drinking a beer or two. But nobody really could remember anything the next morning. Paul Alexander Rusling should have been another guest of honour at the Erkrath radio meeting. Sadly he missed his flight. Deeply sorry he did sent a letter explaining his path through and into life and his current involvment in the Isle of Man longwave project (Sorry, only in German) letterPaul A. Rusling |
